ON NOBLE PROFESSION OF A DOCTOR – BUT A DOCTOR HAS TO SET AN EXAMPLE

ON NOBLE PROFESSION OF A DOCTOR – BUT A DOCTOR HAS TO SET AN EXAMPLE.

People in general are concerned insofar as the conditions of healthcare issues confronting our country are concerned. Usefulness of any professionals for depends on the service rendered by him/her to the society as a whole. There are the people who go all out in following the professional ethics to the letter while there are professionals who exceed their principles of ethics when providing healthcare to the patients thus rendering a yeoman’s role to the society in general. Such people are the cream of a society and are held in highest esteem by all thinking people. Society in general feel indebted by their services and these professionals with humane outlook are loved both by humans and our Creator.

Hope is the prime mover of our life and when we experience it in hopeless situations it make us aware that there are some humans who are here on this planet who follow their own exceptional professional ethics which is hallmark of any society to emulate.

I experienced this truly while I had gone to my home town Gangyal (Jammu- J&K) a few days back. During getting my room washed, suddenly, I slipped due to which I sustained injury on the left hand wrist resulting in breakage of bone of due to which there was severe pain. Time being 2 PM, when all the hospitals doctors etc go for lunch break and I was feeling unbearable severe pain despite taking pain killer.

I was taken to the nearest hospital (Govt. Rajiv Gandhi Hospital at Gangyal, Jammu) at that time despite time constraints.  I met the concerned doctor (ortho.). Although it was a lunch break, yet, the concerned Dr. Rajesh Gandotra (M.S. Ortho.) and Dr. Sahil  besides one physiotherapist Shri Kehar Sing observed my state of my health and  volunteered to provide medicare without any compunction.

All the requisite formalities; patient card, like making case history/sheet, taking x-ray, examining the x-ray etc and meeting all requisite formalities the HOD with the assistance of others helped did plastering etc with minimum pain just within a span of 25 minutes and in the process relieving me of severest pain and help me  in saving me from hopeless condition. Next day being Sunday, I must not have got medical treatment and my predicament must have increased. This shows that we can be relieved of hopeless situations with the active cooperation of medical professionals which counts, God’s help and appropriate situation created by our fellow humans.

Taking into cognigence the above humane and compassionate attitude of Dr. Gandotra and his team of GGH, Gangyal I can emphatically say that there are still some medical professionals who are reliable to the core. God keep this flock growing. I found the said hospital’s ambience most appropriate.

There are some imponderables which have to be kept in mind like:

Information on Medicare. Less knowhow/information about Government related initiatives in healthcare,

Profit motive. Excessive profit motives or  unprofessional attitude of some professionals do not feel even a shred of empathy for poor and downtroddens,

Inadequate medical facilities. In rural areas, we have seen inadequate  availability of doctors and para-medical staff, inadequate availability of medicines in the prevalent dispensaries/hospitals etc.

Unsympathetic attitude of some private hospitals whose main motive is profit, even go to the extent of asking for various tests which are uncalled for or sometimes recommend for operations which could be avoided and could be cured by medicines for garnering more money – it saddens all right thinking people and I shall call it professional dishonesty.

Delegation of Power. then there is no delegation of power by some professionals which may help the general public in the absence of HOD of a particular branch, doctor’s profession requires unmitigated commitment which is the hallmark of this noble profession.

Some of the important principles which anybody would appreciate: sound professionalism, positive approach in rendering healthcare, enthusing patient to get professional medicare taking into account the wellbeing of the patients, providing synergy to the patient through positive talk; negative bent of mind worsens the case rather than curing and sincerity and honesty besides commitment to the core in following profession.

Conclusively, it could be rightly said that those who follow the  idealized and ethical principles of Hippocrates (the father of medicine) are truly the medical professionals  and in this Dr. Gandotra and his team mates meets the bill. Wish that our society gets medicare continuous medical attention which it rightly deserves.

GOD is very compassionate with us in every way, need is to use those blessings which are the results of His bounties and thank Him for everything that He gives us. We should also share these bounties with our fellow-beings. I am the person who loves God and His Creations. I love my Creator and not fear Him. My children are adjusted to life, incommensurate, to their Karma and destiny. I have served as a Sr CGO for about 38 years in a Central Govt. Presently I am serving as an Adm Offer with an Engineering College. I am a spiritual person with liberal ways of thinking. I respect all the religions as I respect mine since I understand that all the religions are the pathways to a SINGLE ENTITY - paths for connecting with Him may be different but the ULTIMATE SOURCE IS ONE. I want to be a student till last day of my life. I am a homeopath also, which I pursue as a social service only. Happy moments, I take as God's Gifts, sad ones I take as His Test for me. I believe that He will surely assist me in this Test of His, come what may. Really. I have more belief in Him than I am on my own. You can comprehend my philosophy in life from my write-ups which I write while interacting with them. I firmly believe that every person has the special characteristic which other fellows cannot have and I respect that person as such.
